The aim of the activity was to monitor the population of a suburb of Tirana, where children, women and men live without appropriate medical care. The team was made up of six volunteer specialized doctors as gynecologist, infectologist, physiatrist and pediatrics.
During the activity, there were several ambulatory medical activities held, in the chirurgical, gynecological, physiatry, cardiology and infectology fields.
The vice Magistrate Commissary Prof. Domenico Arduini, has done gynecological echographies together with doctors and students of the medicine. In collaboration with the University “Tor Vergata” they have taken samples of saliva with the aim to screen for genetic diseases which are most spread in that area, especially of Beta Talassemia. The women have undergone Pap Tests, analyzed then by the Dermatologic Institute of “The Immaculate” in Roma, which acts in Tirana through the University “Our Lady of Good Council”.
Great emotions has given the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio in Albania, H. E. Ramiro Molineri, who celebrated Mass for the present, a Mass dedicated to the sufferings of the people.
“Malteser Albania” was present during the CISOM members stay and activity with logistics and volunteers who were there to offer their help from May 11 – 17, 2010.
