Within the project “Support of the population of South Albania facing a flood emergency”, a project financed by Nando Peretti Foundation, and in collaboration with the Sapa Diocese, the Albanian Organization of the Order of Malta, immediately after receiving the news of floods in Fier, was engaged in monitoring the drinking water for the city of Fier and surrounding areas.
During this period, representatives of the Albanian Organization of the Order of Malta, in collaboration with local government officials and an inspector of the Health Department, took water samples at several points of the city and in several villages in Qarr, Peshtan, Ferras and Kafaraj, for several days.
We note that in most villages the drinking water supply for residents came directly from soil drilling, thus not passing in a special deposit, and the water chlorination was not possible.
The staff and volunteers of Malteser informed local residents as well about the problems that can come from water consumption of these water supplies to protect the health of the inhabitants of these areas.
