“Here I am,” replied Dom Genc Tuku, the parish priest of “The Birth of Our Lady” in Dejë on Sunday, September 16, in the early hours of the day, while after some hours he had to be ready to celebrate Mass with his faithful. But this time, this answer would be given in silence to meet God in His eternal dwelling place.
Dom Genc Tuku was born on June 6, 1975 in Troshan. He attended the elementary and middle school in his birthplace and two years of high school in Blinisht. He attended four years in the high school at the Jesuits and later convinced to follow the way of priesthood, he studied 2 years philosophy and 4 years theology at the seminary “Our Lady of Good Counsel” in Shkodra. He was ordained deacon on September 14, 2001 in the church “The Birth of Our Lady” in Troshan and a priest on June 29, 2002 in St. Stephen‘s Cathedral in Shkodër. After his ordination he served in the parish church “The Birth of Our Lady” in Dejë, but also in many other parishes as “St John Bosco” in Shelqet, “S. Prenda” in Grash, “Our Lady of Rosary” in Gjegjan and in many other areas of the diocese of Sapa. He was responsible for the vocations in the diocese of Sapa and the Diocesan Youth and for more than 6 years he led the National Association “Kolping”.
On September 16, dom Genc Tuku passed away due to a heart attack. The Farewell Mass as a parish priest was celebrated in the parish of Dejë and the Funeral Mass in his birthplace in Troshan.
