
It is an ancient tradition for the Albanian people of every religion to honor Saint Anthony, one of the greatest saints of the Catholic Church, and they go to churches that keep his name to pray to him and ask his intercession.
On 12-13 June, 2008 during the Pilgrimage in St. Anthony Church in Laç – Kurbin, the Malteser Albania First Aid team assisted during 24 hours with 5 volunteers and an Ambulance to the people who went to pray and to stay there during the night. This presence was due to the request of the Albanian Franciscan Province with its center in Shkodër.

Around 100 000 people took part in this pilgrimage during the night and the day of the feast of Saint Anthony. Masses were celebrated every two hours and the midnight Mass was celebrated by H.E. Angelo Massafra, Archbishop of Shkodra.
At the end of the feast day, the Albanian Franciscan Provincial gave thanks to the Malteser First Aid team for the great help given to the people in need for medical assistance.
