The Albanian Organization of the Order of Malta has extensive experience in assistance programmes for the Roma and Gypsie communities throughout Albania. On November 22th, Malteser Albania has celebrated the blessing and inauguration of a multidisciplinary centre for people in need in general and for Roma and Egyptian people in particular.
The blessing ceremony was held by the H.E Archbishop Charles John Brown together with Fra. Gazmend Tinaj, after the blessing ceremony the center was inaugurated by Fran Frrokaj, Mayor of Lezha and Mr. Franz Salm-Reifferscheidt.
The centre comprises a building, a football field and a playground for children and offers: day care for preschool children and after school program for pupils who need assistance, as well as a sports centre. Psychological and legal consultancy is also offered.
This multidisciplinary center is based in the city of Lezha, in the northeast of Albania.
Malteser Albania in partnership with Lezha Municipality and International Donors (Mr. Franz Salm-Reifferscheidt, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Roma population at large, Medicor Foundation, Malteser Stiftung, Global Fund for Forgotten People, Parish group of “St. Cyriakus in Neuss-Grimlinghausen”) will enable the operation of the daily center for Roma and Egyptian Communities and other people in need.
