Two German doctors have carried out mass control visits about the care of the sight ability of children aged 3-6 years old. The visits were carried out at the premises of the “Malteser” Kindergarten, the orphanage, and at the headquarters of the “Albanian Organization of the Order of Malta”.
These vsits are made in agreement with the municipal authorities of the city of Shkodra and organized by “Deutsch-Albanische Initiative Kinderaugen” (German-Albanian Initiative Eyes of Children), in collaboration with Dr. Beci, a project for kindergartens and primary schools of Shkodra and mountain areas.The medical visit included:
– Examination of refractive defects (the fold) with refractometer
– Examination of visibility strength
– Examination of the eyes position
– Examination of the eyes mobility (motility)
– Examination of spatial vision (stereopsis),
which lasted for about 5 – 10 min. / per child.
During the visit children who had problems with eyes were identified, who would pass through a more specialized visit in a private clinic, and then if necessary, enable glasses of them. There were about 110 children who underwent this visit.
A “screening” – examination in kindergartens or school helps to identify children with visual impairments, which then must be treated depending on the defect that they may have (Hypermetropia or myopia, distortion of the cornea of the eye, squint, etc.).
