It has become a tradition that the Malteser Albania volunteers, who participate in the Summer Camps in Velipoja, have a rewarding trip in different places.
This year, the volunteers who participated in the Summer Camp Velipoja 2013, accompanied by the staff, have had a cultural and an entertaining trip in October 26, in Cetinje, a town of immense historical heritage, founded in the 15th century; the cradle of Montenegrin culture and the Orthodox religious center; the honorary capital of Montenegro.
The first stop was in the Art Museum, where the ancient, miracle-working icon of Our Lady of Philermos (patroness and protector of Order of Malta) is currently kept, together with many other works of art (landscapes, portraits, abstracts, other icons…), but set apart in a chapel of its own.
The participants have been led by a tour guide, who told them the history of Our Lady of Philermos and its “journeys” from the Mount Philermos in southwestern Rhodes, where there were the remains of a Byzantine church, to the restoration and its housing in a special ‘chapel’ in the Cetinje At Museum.
After, they have climbed the Lovćen Mountain to visit the Lovćen Mausoleum and have a look at the amazing view of the whole town.
