Due to the critical situation, and in response to the request of the Apostolic Administrator of South Albania, H. E. Mons. Hil Kabashi OFM, to offer assistance to people of the flooded areas, the Albanian Organization of the Order of Malta, offered its support to help the families of these areas, trying to ease their situation.
As a first measure, to help flooded inhabitants, the rapid reaction team of the civil protection structure of the organization made possible the preparation and distribution of:
1) 100 food packages,
2 )100 detergent packages
-Detergents for clothing
-Detergents for dishes
3) 100 blankets
4) 80 packages of clothing containing:
-Shoes for children and adults
-Clothing for children and adults
5) Water – 500 bottles of 6 liters
These packages were distributed in the villages of Bocovë, Levan and Ferras. Their distributed was made being based on the given lists by the mayor of Levan for families who have been mostly damaged by flooding, and who were mostly in need. Representatives of the municipality and order were present throughout the distribution of aid packages to needy families according to the lists prepared and avoid possible misunderstandings.
For reasons of immediate response in providing this assistance, emergency funds of the Organization were used. These funds will be replaced by financial support provided through the Diocese of Sapa and Bishop Avgustini by the Foundation Nando Peretti and the Ambassador of the Order of Malta in Albania, Mr. Palumbo.
Under the agreement with the Diocese of Sapa and the Ambassador of the Order of Malta, this assistance was only the first phase in supporting the populations affected by floods during the emergency. The further support will consist in helping to relieve the damage generated in drinking water system and the training of school students informing the population about preparation for such cases of civil emergencies.
