The World Day of the Sick is a feast day of the Roman Catholic Church which was instituted on May 13, 1992 by Pope John Paul II. Beginning on February 11, 1993, it is celebrated every year on the commemoration of Our Lady of Lourdes, for all believers seeks to be “a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one’s suffering”. People around the world take time to pray for the sick and those who work very hard to alleviate their sufferings on this day.
Malteser volunteers and First Aid team helpedtransport the sick and disabled people, living in the docklands of Shkodra and “The Missionaries of Charity Mother Teresa”, to the Cathedral and back.Together they took part in the Holy Mass.
This event, now a yearly tradition of Malteser, not only offers the disabled and sick people the possibility to participate the Holy Communion’s celebration, but also helps the Malteser volunteers spiritually grow and act according to the motto: “Defense of the Faith and assistance to the poor and the suffering”.
